Electrical Compliance – Arc Flash
C3 Engineering | Compliance
Arc Flash
An arc flash is an event where a flashover of electric current leaves its intended path and travels through the air from one conductor to another, or to ground. Effectively, this event is an explosion involving molten metal, superheated gas, shrapnel and extreme noise – if a human is in close proximity to the arc flash, serious injury and even death can occur. Arc flash studies or Arc Flash Risk Assessments are engineering calculations required by NFPA 70E regulations. These studies take into account device types and sizes, conductor size and length, the voltage present and a number of other factors. Through this study we can determine varying safe distances from the potential fault and provide labeling to ensure employees know the dangers, and appropriate levels of PPE. Not only can we ensure you are compliant, but more importantly you can rest assured your employees will have a much safer workplace.
