Job Purpose
The Electrical Field Test Technician will inspect, test, collect data and maintain electrical equipment at client sites. The equipment includes Switchboards, panelboards, transformers, cabling etc. Technicians will work with electrical equipment, such as SF6 & vacuum circuit breakers, pad mount transformers/GSU transformers, grounding, instrument transformers, and other protective devices.
Responsibilities
- Low, Medium, and High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing
- Testing medium-voltage cables – Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot.
- Power transformer testing – Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
- Test both electro-mechanical, microprocessor and solid-state relays
- Consult manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering personnel to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems and determine optimum equipment functioning.
- Prepare and maintain reports detailing all tests, repairs, and maintenance performed.
- Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean equipment and components.
Qualifications (Required)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
- Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
- Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
- Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
- Minimum 2 years in the electrical field.
- General PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Previous or current NETA or NICET Certification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelors or associate degree in Electrical/Electronic technology, or Military experience.
- OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training
- Experience with PowerDB.
- 2 or more years of relevant experience preferred.
- Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.

Compensation and Benefits
- Pay depending on credentials and experience – $24.00 – $38.00 per hour plus overtime
